Public Servants Received Training in Civic Education

On October 2-9, 2014, public servants enrolled in the Zurab Zhvania Georgian Institute of Public Affairs School of Administration received series of trainings in Civic Education. The sessions were lead by a representative of the Civic Education Lecturers Association (CELA), Ketevan Kukhianidze.

The training aimed at introducing the essence and principles of democracy, defining the relationship between the state and the individual, developing basic civic competences and skills, and providing other relevant knowledge to the public servants.  

The training covered the following topics:

  • Government and the Constitution
  • Human Rights
  • Civil Society and Citizen Participation
  • Elections and Representative Democracy
  • Gender Equality and Gender Balance
  • The Role of Media in a Democratic Society

About 50 public servants from 8 municipal districts participated in the training.

Upon the completion of the Civic Education training, the participants presented civic projects that mainly aimed at ensuring proper response to societal issues and ensuring citizen involvement in this process.

The Zurab Zhvania Georgian Institute of Public Affairs School of Administration aims at providing professional development for public service employees through special educational programs. The target groups of the School represent ethnic minorities from minority populated regions and residents of the mountainous areas.
